Riot has raised $30M in Series B funding led by Left Lane Capital, following triple-digit growth in 2024 to surpass $10M in annual revenue. From here, we’ll accelerate our international expansion, double our workforce, and scale our vision of employee security for the AI era.

Today, Riot turns five. And that isn’t the only reason to celebrate. 🎂

We’ve raised $30 million in Series B funding to continue championing an employee security solution for the AI era. Led by Left Lane Capital, this round also features support from our existing investors at Y Combinator, Base10, and FundersClub.

I want to share a few words on what this means for the Riot community, and what happens from here. (In short: good things).

AI is changing everything we knew about cybersecurity

Advances in artificial intelligence have helped hackers everywhere level up. When it’s cheap and quick to synthesize publicly available data into a convincing and imaginative attack, any scammer can target anyone – and teams everywhere become much more vulnerable. Essentially, AI tools have made it possible to run unlimited world-class scams on autopilot.

This explains a lot. It explains the 1,265% increase in phishing attacks we’ve seen over the last two years – and the steady rise of data breaches eroding public trust in all kinds of organizations. It also explains why even mature companies continue to fall victim to these attacks. Even worse, every time one of these breaches happen, it only feeds new scams – which then snowball into even more breaches and scams.

The solutions we’ve relied on in the past are no match for the scale of this challenge. It’s no longer enough for us to just encourage a culture of cybersecurity awareness, because the threats are evolving faster than we can train people. Sure, we can – and should! – teach our teams to look out for phishing red flags and be responsible with data. But the threats we face now are too constant, personalized, and clever for the old way of doing things.

We still need awareness training – but we need to go beyond awareness and deliver something better. We need to build and maintain a tight shared security posture automatically. We need to safeguard our systems and data with proactive protections, and choke off potential scams before they get started. We need to stop feeding the hackers.

How Riot meets this challenge by putting people first

Over the past five years, the Riot team has grown to support over a million learners to be safer and more secure together. This journey has taught us a lot about what security leaders and their teams want from a cybersecurity solution – and what they don’t want.

We started Riot because we saw a need for a cybersecurity solution built with employee empowerment in mind. We could see how generic training modules were failing to engage learner curiosity or imagination, and how compliance solutions were taking too much time and effort. That’s why we developed a personalized, interactive solution giving people the support they need to take control of their security both personally and professionally.

Now, with our real-time employee cybersecurity monitoring solution, we’re helping companies build a better shared security posture. We do this by detecting potential employee vulnerabilities (for example, weak password protections or unsafe file permissions) and guiding people to resolve these weaknesses. We match these gaps with quick, memorable conversations with our cyber coach, Albert, sharing actionable tips and insights. And we do this where people already work, whether it’s Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat or even over email.

This blend has enabled us to surpass $10 million in annual revenue in 2024, representing another year of triple-digit growth. It’s what’s allowed us to delight every one of the 1,500 organizations we support, including technology leaders like Mistral AI and Modern Treasury, as well as enterprises like L’Occitane, Deel, and Intercom.

And now, thanks to this round of fundraising, we’re going to do so much more.

What happens next – and how you can be part of it

By 2027, our ambition is to protect more than ten million people around the world with Riot. We’ll be helping companies stay ahead of the latest sophisticated threats, and we’ll be making it easier to take control of the information hackers can find about us.

To get there, we’ll soon be unveiling our aggregated security dashboard, with enhanced protections against data breaches and exfiltration, infostealers, and oversharing leading to social engineering attacks. We’ll also be announcing a big expansion to our awareness training program, and some even better ways to test our teams with attack simulations.

I’ll have more to share about these exciting developments soon. In the meantime, I’d like to thank the entire Riot community for helping us get here – and for being part of what’s coming next.
