Create an alias on Microsoft

By default, Riot grants you an exotic dedicated email address for your cybersecurity hotline. To make your hotline useful, you want to create an alias that is easy to remember for your employees. Good news: it’s actually as easy as creating a new group on Microsoft, and adding the exotic email address to it. You will need the admin rights to do it thought.

1. Create a new contact

First, we’re going to create a new contact linked to the exotic email address. To do that, go on Microsoft admin panel and create a new contact.

Open the Add a contact panel →

Name your new contact Cybersecurity hotline, and fill the email address field with your attributed email address.

Check the box to hide it from the address list, and then click on Add. Now, let’s create a new group.

2. Create the group

Open the Group creation page on your Microsoft administration panel to create a new group. Then, select Distribution as the group type. Then click Next.

Name the group Cybersecurity hotline for example, then click Next again. Pick the group email address. This is the email address your team will use to reach out to the cybersecurity hotline. We suggest using security@yourdomain.com or flag@yourdomain.com.

If you want your hotline to be publicly reachable, you can check the checkbox here. Once this is done, you can click the Next button and then the Create group button. Your group has been successfully created.

Now that the group has been created, let’s add the newly created contact to the group.

3. Add the contact to the group

Find the newly created group and go to the Members tab. Then click the View all and manage members link. Then click on Add members.

Search for the newly created contact then select it.

Then click on the Add button. Your alias should now be properly configured to be used by your team. Go back to Riot and set the newly created group email address in your Reporting module settings and spread the word.
